Amazing.
This is just an amazing film that will have you leave the theater with
a smile on your face and a desire to see it again...soon! Not to understate
the importance of Zach Braff's role on Scrubs as being a reason
he had the resources or connections to get this made, but Zach...LEAVE
TV! If this film is any indication, he needs to be writing/directing/acting
in feature films. Garden State is almost intrusive with how
well we get to know Large (Braff) and that's part of its greatness...you
feel for him, identify with him, and want to hang out with him some
more. There are SEVERAL hilarious moments, many of which are fantastically
subtle. Braff is wonderful as is Natalie Portman; they've got a great
and believable chemistry. Peter Sarsgaard is good as well playing the
role of a New Jersey underachiever. All of the characters are so colorful
in their own special way. While it's hilarious, it is at the same time
deep and moving. Scenes like the one where Braff accepts an impromptu
hug from Portman's mother are genuinely touching. On top of all the
great things the film has going for it, the soundtrack is one of the
best I've heard in a long time. I can't recommend this film enough or
heap more praise on it, it's wonderful! In my opinion, this is a must
see!
